Sheila Lovell

Sheila Lovell grew up in India, the daughter of Methodist missionary parents J.T. and Ruth Seamands. She is a graduate of Asbury College (now University) (B.A., 1967) and the University of Kentucky (M.A., 1968). After marrying and moving away from Wilmore, KY in 1970, she spent twelve years on a small farm in Wayne County, KY, with her husband, Jim. Their two children, Jessica and J.T., were born while they were there. In 1982, Sheila and her family moved back to Wilmore, where she has lived and worked at Asbury Theological Seminary since then. For the next 30 years, she served five presidents of Asbury Seminary as their Executive Assistant, and then moved to half-time and went to work in the Advancement Office as the Grants Administrator. Sheila loves to read and to write. During the pandemic, she wrote a book about her life in India and in Kentucky, to keep her grandchildren entertained while they were out of school. As a part of Asbury Seminary’s Centennial celebration in 2023 she was asked to write a popular history of Asbury Seminary’s first 100 years. Jim passed away in 2012. Sheila continues to enjoy her two children and six grandchildren, all of whom live nearby.
