Dear Friends,

Africa Sunrise Communities and the Rising Hope Community Center project need your help urgently! Rising expenses in South Sudan are depleting our bank account. We must build it back up in order to continue our work in establishing our school in my hometown of Bor. Please read through this report to see the progress being made and how you can help.

Rising Hope Christian Center Site Visit: Our Journey to South Sudan

In June 2024, Rebecca and I, along with our five children, embarked on a meaningful journey to South Sudan. Departing from Louisville on May 29, we traveled through Boston, Doha, and Nairobi before reaching our destination.

Reunion with My Family and the Juet Community

On June 8, the Juet Community and five related communities gathered to honor us. It was a joyous occasion marked by heartfelt prayers from my mother, Roda Akon Ayuen, who was overjoyed to see her grandchildren and my wife. The community celebrated our reunion by slaughtering a bull, and the atmosphere was filled with blessings and unity. This gathering strengthened the bonds within our family and community, reminding us of the deep connections that define us.

Visit to Rebecca’s Family and the Anok Community

On June 11, we traveled to Mingkaman (Guolyar) to visit Rebecca’s family. The Anok Community welcomed us with warmth and joy, celebrating our arrival by slaughtering a bull in honor of our union. The day was filled with dancing, laughter, and a profound sense of belonging.

Additionally, family members from both sides traveled from Nairobi to the Baratuko Refugee Camp in Northern Uganda to reunite with Rebecca’s relatives. This gathering was deeply emotional, especially as it was the first time Rebecca had seen many of her family members since our marriage in 2006.

Taking Steps for 2025 Transition to Kenya

As part of our long-term vision for 2025, Rebecca and I made the significant decision to leave our three older children, Biar, Angeth, and Ayiei, in Kenya to continue their education. This step is crucial in our plan to transition to Africa by 2025, if it is God’s will. While Rebecca, Aluel, Deng, and I have returned to Kentucky, we are actively pursuing scholarships for our children through Sudan Rebirth Ministry to support their educational journey. This decision aligns with our broader mission to prepare for our relocation, allowing our children to grow in an environment that nurtures their academic and spiritual development. We hope to secure long-term sponsors to help us achieve this vision.

Rising Hope Christian Center Site Visit and Progress Celebration

From June 15 to 17, I had the privilege of visiting the Bor site of the Rising Hope Christian Center alongside Engineer Lual Manyuon Kuol, Gen. Awur Mawel Malual, Rev. Michael Ayom Dengawur, and several others. The visit was a profound reminder of the power of community and faith as we witnessed the progress on the wall fence, a testament to the dedication of Engineer Kuol and his team. This site, poised to host a new school, is a beacon of hope for the people of Bor. We are inching closer to the fulfillment of our Nehemiah project, with God’s hand guiding every step. The “wall fence” stands as a symbol of rising hope, and as we move forward, the next phase—the construction of the school building—will root this hope even deeper in the hearts of the community.

This milestone represents more than just the end of a construction project—it symbolizes the birth of hope within our community, grounded in the powerful message of Nehemiah 4:6: “For the people had a mind to work.” The original text is even more profound: “For the people had a heart to work.” (ESV).

This accomplishment is not just celebrated by us but by the entire community. Our neighbors, the people of Jonglei State, government officials, and friends near and far are all joining in praise to God for this significant achievement. When hearts are engaged in the work of God, progress follows—and this wall stands as a testament to that truth.

We could not have reached this stage without your unwavering support. The ministry of Africa Sunrise Communities is deeply grateful for your generous donations, continued prayers, and steadfast encouragement. Together, we are building more than just walls—we are building hope.

Securing Transportation for ASC Operations

During my recent trip, one of the key objectives was to secure reliable transportation for Africa Sunrise Communities (ASC). After careful consideration, I am advocating for the purchase of a used Toyota truck. The UN mandates the purchase of a vehicle by a non-profit organization in South Sudan, in order to qualify that organization for full recognition by the UN. This investment is not just about transportation; it is about ensuring that ASC is fully equipped to carry out its mission on an international scale, with the mobility to reach even the most remote areas of South Sudan.

Aluel’s Medical Journey and Autism Resources in Nairobi

Our beloved daughter Aluel has been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, a diagnosis that has brought both challenges and hope to our family. After a thorough evaluation in Nairobi, doctors confirmed the diagnosis we received in the U.S., noting that while Kenya offers some support, the U.S. remains superior in providing the necessary services for autism. Communication challenges due to accent differences between American and British English were highlighted as a concern, and the doctors strongly recommended continuing speech and occupational therapy, ideally in the U.S., where expertise in autism care is more advanced. Financially, managing Aluel’s condition is a significant burden, and in Kenya, many families see treatment in India,

which is more affordable than local options but still beyond our reach. Despite these challenges, we are grateful for the organic nutritional benefits available in Nairobi, which support Aluel’s overall health. We continue to pray for God’s guidance and provision as we navigate this journey.

Conclusion: A Beacon of Hope in Bor

It is clear that the Rising Hope Christian Center is more than just a physical project; it is a symbol of resilience and faith for the people of Bor. The wall fence, standing strong against all odds, represents the collective hope of a community that has endured so much. As we move forward with the construction of the school, we do so with the conviction that this site will become a sanctuary of learning and growth for future generations. This journey, much like the story of Nehemiah, is a testament to what can be accomplished when a community comes together in faith. We invite all who have supported this mission to continue walking with us, as the seeds of hope planted here continue to grow and bear fruit. With God’s guidance, this project will stand as a lasting testament to the power of belief and the enduring spirit of our people.
